Ramblings on Asana

The whole of the material universe exists because of the 'play of opposites'. This idea sheds awareness on the play of opposites within our Asana practice. When we sit up, there must be apoint when the energy also moves down to ground us! Most of us find this point of energetic change in the small of the back. Thinking only of sitting up is quite a different experience energetically than thinking only of sitting down. Doing both feels different again ... more balanced. If we move to the left we must also be moving somewhere to the right ... or else it will feel so unbalanced! Awareness of the different directions of energy in a posture, brings yet another dimension to our experience of Asana. We can also find the centre of the movement, the point of change, where Yang meets Yin, Loma flows into Viloma, positive to negative and experience its dynamic. Where the opposites merge one into the other is the "turning point" and the point on which we wish to take our stance. Within all this wonderful dynamic energy is a centre of stillness. We must balance ourselves between the play of opposites in a dynamic peace!

I have been practicing yoga from last one year, and I have been observing some knee pains from last two weeks.
Is it possible to suggest some asanas for my condition. Currently I have limited my practice to only dandasana with cushioning under the knees.
Will be grateful for your advice.
Thanks
As a yoga therapist I urge people to be soft with their knees. In all poses even standing ones. please be sure to keep back of knees soft. the is more flexibility that occurs when knees are not stressed out. Cushion under knees is perfect.
Try this on
Lay on your back. One knee bent with foot flat on floor
Back Flat.
Lift other leg toward sky but keep tailbone on floor flat.
Take the toes of the raised foot to point to your nose.
SOFTLY!
Imagine the skin of your heel lifting to ceiling.
SOFT KNEES
be sure to have toes and ankle in line. not toes pointing ouwards.
I hope this is a nice pose for your knees.
